Lakeland Singers: Looking for  Singers!

A Message from the Director (Summer 2010)

Why Community Theater is Important

All shows are subject to availability from the royalty houses that own the rights and/or ASCAP, who owns rights to the music that we employ in non-musical presentations. Lakeland does not produce or condone the production of any shows where royalties and rights are not acknowledged and paid for by the producing organization prior to its presentation.

Glorious! - One weekend left! - 3 shows, June 18, 19, 20

The Lakeland Arts Centre build, features architecture that is a site to behold. Designed by Architects Bournemouth and built by Berkshire Builders. Feel free to come down and take a look at our fabulous building and join in with our community theatre activities.

A special addition to Lakeland’s 2016 Season is happening in June! Peter Quilter’s hilarious and touching story of Florence Foster Jenkins, “the worst singer in the world” is called Glorious!, and it will begin on the Lakeland stage on June 11th, running for two weekends, bringing warmth and humor to our audiences.

The joyful Florence Foster Jenkins had a passion for singing, but a voice of disastrous proportions which left audiences crying with laughter. Spinning from her bizarre recording sessions, unbelievable recitals and an ultimate triumph at New York's Carnegie Hall - this is a true, heart-warming story about a group of eccentric friends who lived their dreams. The triumphant West End production starred Dame Maureen Lippman and was nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award as Best New Comedy. In addition we plan to put on a range of other entertainment to ensure our guests have a night to remember.

"A delightful, blissfully funny hit."—Daily Telegraph
"Hilarious and touching."—Daily Mail
"A glittering comedy with a heart."—Sunday Times

Directed by MaryAnn Wittemore, Glorious! stars Maria Hurst as Florence Foster Jenkins, Daniel Dunlow as Cosme McMoon, her pianist, Wally Hurst as her “gentleman friend” St. Clair, and other Lakeland favorites, too! Make your plans now to see this hilarious show, which is based on a true story!

Glorious! will open on Friday, June 11, and run on Friday and Saturday nights, June 11, 12, 18 and 19. There will be a special Sunday matinee – and the final show – on Sunday, June 20, Father’s Day. Tickets are only $15.00 for adults and $8.00 for students and children.

Directed by Wrenn Phillips and accompanied by Judith Harris, the Lakeland Singers are celebrating America, including a special “Salute To Broadway” with this great show! The concert is only $15.00 for adults and $8.00 for students and children.

The Music Man, Jr. - Opens Friday, July 16
A production of The Young People’s Theatre Workshop and Kids' Summer Theatre Camp.

An affectionate tribute to Small Town U.S.A. of a bygone era, The Music Man, Jr. follows fast-talking Harold Hill as he cons the people of River City, Iowa into buying band instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band he vows to organize. This despite the fact he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian the Librarian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen by curtain’s fall. With many well known and favorite tunes such as, “Ya Got Trouble”, “Goodnight My Someone”, “Seventy-six Trombones”, and “Lida Rose”, you’ll be humming as you leave the theatre. The Music Man, Jr. opens July 16 and runs for two weekends, July 16, 17, 18, 23 and 24, with the 18th being a Sunday matinee.
